Founded in the "Ninth Month of the Ninetieth Year" (September 1990), Troop 990 is a Boy Scout Troop in the Westlake community of Austin, Texas. We are sponsored by The Knights of Columbus at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Troop 990 prides itself in being a Scout-run Troop, where the decisions and plans are made by the Scouts with the guidance but not interference of the adults, giving the Scouts a unique experience and teaching them valuable lessons of life. Here is a list of some of our more outstanding past activities, leaders and Eagle Scouts.
The Troop has beneifted from active adult participation since its inception. Due to this participation, the Scouts have been able to attend a variety of Scouting activities. In addition to Scout involvement, Troop 990 depends on the energy of the adults to keep the program alive. Adult leadership positions include formal and informal positions and include a range of time committment from occasional to weekly.
This is a wonderful ministry of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church and other organizations in our community. Alan Graham leads this effort and Steve Sullivan heads up the Troop volunteers. Volunteers from the Troop meet at the church on the 4th Friday of every month at 4:30PM sharp. They help prepare the truck and then some head out to make the deliveries. Please contact Mr. Sullivan if you would like any information concerning the ministry.
Troop 990 has various methods for distributing and collecting information. Traditional methods include telephone trees and both verbal and written messages at Troop meetings. We also use email and websites to distribute information. The Troop operates a website at troop990.org and an email list at t990@yahoogroups.com for general Troop memers. The email group has a website at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/t990/, which stores past emails and has many other features. Only Troop members are allowed to join the email list or the email group website.
Active adults leaders have an additional email list at t990leaders@yahoogroups.com This list offloads many routine planning messages from the general Troop email list. The website for this list is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/t990leaders/ Like the general email list, access is limited to Troop members only.
To join one of these email groups, give your email address to a Troop adult leader. If you want to use the email group web features, you need to first register as a user at http://groups.yahoo.com. As a user, you can apply to join one of the groups by going to the website and clicking Join this Group. Your membership will need to be approved, so if you have not already explained your request in person with a Troop adult leader, you should do so in your application.
This web site is designed and maintained entirely by the members of Troop 990. Please send comments and suggestions to webmaster. This site is always in development and will grow with time.
