These people are required to sign documents for travel and advancement.
Scoutmaster: The primary adult leader for the Scouts.
Works with the SPL to decide Troop activities.
Works with the Committee Chairman and other adults to implement the Scouts' decisions safely.
Has official signature responsibility on advancement paperwork, including Eagle applications.
A visible Troop point of contact for new parents or people outside the Troop.
Committee Chairman: The primary leader for the adults.
Leads the committee meetings and coordinates the adults.
Has official signature responsibility on Eagle applications.
Advancement Chairman: Keeps track of Scout advancement.
Helps direct the Scouts' rank advancement.
Master of Ceremonies at Court of Honor.
Has official signature responsibility and Council contact for rank advancement.
Official Adult Leader Positions
BSA lists these adult leader positions.
Many adults hold these official positions and also have functional responsibilities.
Troop 990 does not assign different duties to Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member.
Assistant Scoutmaster: Helps the Scoutmaster.
Committee Member: Attends and votes at Committee meetings.
Functional Responsibilities
Troop 990 has found that several activities should each be performed by one adult.
This provides consistency over time.
Campout Coordinator: Prepares and collects permission forms, collects money.
Keeps track of which Scouts have signed up for each campout.
Positions of Responibility Coordinator: Documents Positions of Responsibilities.
Signs up Scouts every six months.
Maintains a record of all Scouts' positions of responsibility.
Registration Chairman: Sends out notices for annual Scout registration.
Receives forms and registration payment from the Scouts.
Works with the Council to register Scouts each year.
Activity Coordinators
We have adults that volunteer to organize and supervise special activities.
Summer Camp Coordinator: Make early deposit to hold our spot at camp.
Collect Scout registration, payments and Merit Badge selections.
Work with the Council to register the Scouts and submit merit badge selections.
Work with parents to plan their Scout's participation.
Organize adult campers who will provide adult supervision.
Winter Camp Coordinator: Same as for Summer Camp.
Eagle Court of Honor: Work with Scouts and parents to plan and carry out Eagle Courts of Honor to honor out Scouts that have newly earned their Eagle rank.
Veterinary Science Merit Badge: Work with Scouts and their parents to sign up for this event several months ahead of time.
Work with Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine to register our Scouts.
Merit Badge University Coordinator: Work with Scouts and their parents to sign up for this event several months ahead of time.
Work with the Alpha Rho fraternity to coordinate the Troop's participation in this one-day Merit Badge event.
Adult Patrol Leader for specific campouts: Grubmaster for the adults on a particular campout.
Plan adult participation in Scout activities, including advancement.
Refreshments for Courts of Honor: One of the easiest and most appreciated responsibilities.
Merit Badge Coordinators: Including Aquarena Center, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Hornaday weekends.
Organize Merit Badge completion sessions for Eagle-required badges.
Organize Merit Badge classes for areas in which the adult is an expert.
